Coding and SEO

If you want to make the most out of your website then search engine optimization should be your top priority. As you probably know, search engine optimization is all about enhancing your website in such a way that it can rank highly on popular search engines like Google and Yahoo. The higher it ranks on these search engines, the higher your chances are of reaching your potential clients. This article is meant to discuss the role that coding plays in search engine optimization.

Styling your pages

HTML is probably the most basic method that you can learn if you want to format your pages. If you have great content and you don’t have the time to learn more complicated web designing methods then HTML is a good choice for you. The problem with HTML is that it is not advisable for websites that contain many pages. This is because you would have to format each and every page separately. Should you decide to make a change in your site, you would have to do so page by page, and this can become easily laborious. In order to solve this problem, web masters turn to CSS or Cascading Style Sheets. Even if you organize your content using HTML, you can use CSS for design. CSS is fast and easy because you only have to modify a single file in order to make changes in multiple pages.

To validate or not to validate

Code validation is one of the common topics that web masters like to debate about. Validating your website codes means making sure it conforms to the rules set by the W3C, which stands for the World Wide Web Consortium that regularly creates news versions of CSS, HTML and other web programs. However, most professionals have come up with the conclusion that website content is far more important than coding validation, unless of course you are a web design company.

Other tips to remember

There are other tips that you might want to remember if you want to make sure that your website stays on top of the search results’ pages. For instance, be sure to know how to use Javascript in your web pages. Search engines have a hard time reading Javascript, so you have to make it easier for them by incorporating your Javascript into your page code. This doesn’t necessarily make it easier for the search engine to read it, but you can at least rest assured that it will be read.
