The Top Search Engines According to Consumers
A data released by the University of Michigan has placed Google at the top of the list as far as consumer satisfaction is concerned. This information came from the university’s The American Customer Satisfaction Index which works to rank various companies coming from different industries and sectors.
In the said measure, Google came up first with a score of 86 – a substantial improvement compared to its score of 78 during the previous year. Yahoo was first as far as portals are concerned, ending with a score of 77 – a two-point drop from last year’s score. MSNBC.com, ABCNews.com and MSN completed the first five on the list.
Information and market share data were collated by several different firms including Hitwise and comScore.
How Google still managed to attain the top spot on the survey considering that it hasn’t changed much as far as consumer experience is concerned is still a mystery. Some of the experts behind the survey believe that the increase in satisfaction rating may be because Google has always been associated with search. Whenever users needed to look for something, more often than not, the first choice would be Google.
This brings search engine marketers to the task of making sure that their client websites are tweaked according to the standards of search that this search engine uses. While it’s good to ensure that the site’s pages are search-engine-friendly regardless of what the consumers use – ie Google, Yahoo or Ask – it wouldn’t hurt to make sure that SEO strategies lean towards areas that consumers are more apt to use.
Because online marketing efforts are geared towards attracting consumers into a website, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to streamline strategies according to common user behavior. If users are more apt to go for Google to search for whatever they need over any other search engine, it’s only logical to take careful notice of the metrics that the search engine uses to determine search placements. As an online marketer, you want to allot some time into making sure that your client website maintains a decent spot in Google’s relevant search results.
